With exterior tiles, flaking can become a problem as tile ages. To evaluate safety implications caused by the flaking off of tiles, it is necessary to understand the mechanism that causes the flaking. The effects of forces such as temperature or solar radiation are largely unknown. Therefore, we conducted approximately one year of outdoor exposure tests to understand the behavior of the actual tiles due to temperature changes. As a result, we know that behavior of tiles is influenced by strain of tile restraint from concrete wall and this strain is caused by difference in concrete and tile temperatures.
