The behaviours of the roof typed shallow hyperbolic paraboloidal shells with square site plans are investigated using the finite element method. How the displacements and stresses of the shells under the uniform load with pined boundary conditions on all four sides change when the number of division meshes changes is studied, and he accuracy of the present method is discussed from the comparison between the results of this method and the Fourier series expansion method. The comparison shows the good agreements of both displacements and stresses. The behaviours of the roof typed shell built up four equally shaped unit shells supported on the four corners are investigated mainly to get some knowledge about the effects of the stiffened beams attached as shwon in Fig. 14. The effects of the bending rigidities and eccentricity of beams against shell slabs and the two boundary conditions of the pined supports and the fixed supports are discussed.
