This paper presents a new technique of numerical analysis for the framed structures with shear walls and slabs. The principle of the technique is based on the displacement method of the stiffness matrix analysis. The stiffness matrix of a column can be obtained by the general procedure. The framed wall is idealized to be a single structural member which has four nodal points at the corners of boundary frames of wall. Each nodal point has six displacement components (u, v, w, θ_x, θ_y, θ_z). The stiffness matrix of the framed wall can be derived by the finite element method as the solutions of the simple problems of the forced displacement at the nodal point. The stiffness matrix of a slab is equivalent to that of the wall because the slab can be considered to be the wall which is placed horizontally. By summarizing the stiffness matrices of all members, the stiffness matrix of the full structure can be derived. So the solutions under the given boundary conditions can be obtained. Comparing the calculated results by this technique with the one by the finite element method for a few types of structures and also with the experimental results for shear walls, good agreements have been obtained, so that, in conclusion, this technique can be used for the analysis of two- or three-dimensional framed structures with shear walls and slabs under the arbitrary forces.
