The objective of this study is to show the historical characters of the Kankouba in the Meiji Era. The Kankouba had meny stalles in the house that was one of shop styles. A summary will be given as follows; 1) The Kankouba was established by the Tokyo prefecture in 1878 at Eiraku-Cho (Tatsunokuchi). 2) The model of the Kankouba at Eiraku-Cho was the bajaar of London and the fair of New York. 3) The management of the Kankouba at Eiraku-Cho was transfered from the government to the private in 1879. 4) The Kankouba prospered in the late Meiji Era. 5) In the late Meiji Era, the Kankouba was opened a shop in the bustling streets, and The customers took pleasure in a just look at goods. 6) The Kankouba took the lead for the modern shop styles.
