The charrette workshop is defined as an intensive workshop by the professionals of urban and architectural fields. It is well experimented in Europe and USA, where the professionals have various kind of social roles. The urban planning education sub-committee of the urban planning committee of Architectural Institute of Japan has started experimental charrette workshops by instructors and students since 2005, held in 4 districts in Japan. This paper introduces the outline of the workshop and investigates its educational effects to the students and its social effects to the district, and verifies its potential as an urban design supportive method.
