抄録
The affected area due to the 1889 Kumamoto earthquake is over rapped to that of the recent 2016 Kumamoto earthquake. It is important to learn from the former event for understanding earthquake disaster aspects. Literature survey on reconnaissance and related reports for this earthquake was performed. At that time, many field surveys were done in spite of the era of the dawn of modern seismology. Gathered documents were classified into several categories and interpreted. Reconnaissance items and damage statistics were also discussed.
