This paper examines the effect of road surface decorations through a social experiment. Road decorations can change the street atmosphere different, and motivate people to walk and increase participation in street activities. However, people feel less secure when considering the safety of the elderly and children while walking; specifically, vehicles are a major safety concern. Similar to a woonerf/ shared space in Europe, a traffic-controlling rule allowing various road activities should be implemented; subsequently, after drivers understand this traffic regulations, everyone will be able to use the road as a place of living without anxiety.
