Diverse lives and societal changes have created the demand for flexible use of residential streets. The authors installed movable objects such as potted plants and seats on a residential street to observe their effect on human activities. It was noticed that the objects had a calming effect on traffic and promoted pedestrian safety. It was also observed that plants influenced pedestrians to walk leisurely and feel relaxed; the presence of seats motivated the elderly to go out onto the streets and walk. The installations potentially promoted communication among residents by improving traffic environment.
