Recent green environmentalism insists symbiotic relationship between human and nature as a countercharge upon highly industrialized urban society. This paper aims to criticize such movement, and to make it clear that our economic behavior itself is the basic reason of forest environmental problems.
Forest policy in Japan shifted its importance on from flow to stock of resources, and import of woods increased unrestainedly. The public seems to accept it as considering that we cannot import green environment but forest products. However, such a selfishness never be allowed in international society. Japanese government did only distinguish types of function of forests as environmental policy, but it have not tried to regulate industrial activities at all. In contrast, not a few countries in Europe and North America have democratic rules of regulating activities of forest industry, which Japan should acquire.
Green environmentalism upon shameless mass import of woods without consideration of sustainable forest production must be criticized. New environmental movement deals with global and local issues including revival of domestic forestry is desired.
