The primary structure of porcine caerulo-plasmin was studied by paper chromato-graphy, paper electrophoresis and combination method of paper chromatography and electro-phoresis. The molecule is composed of common amino acids as well as three kinds of sugars. Both amino-terminal and carboxy-terminal amino acids were found to be phenylalanine. A sugar containing oligopep-tide was isolated after hydrolysis with Pro-nase-P. The peptide is made up of four amino acids : threonine, alanine, lysine and histidine. It was suggested that the sugar is bound to the ε-amino group of lysine.
The authors wish to express their deep gratitude to Prof. S. Hattori, University of Tokyo and Prof. T. Shibata and Dr. Nagahisa, Tokyo Institute of Technology, for their kind guidance throughout this work. The authors are also thankful to Mr. Kikuchi for his help in this investigation.
