A simple and highly sensitive spectrophotometric method for the determination of isonicotinic acid hydrazide(isoniazid, INH) using o-hydroxyhydroquinonephthalein(Qn.Ph.)-palladium(II)-cetyltrimethylammonium chloride(CTAC) complex was established. This method is based on the decrease in the absorbance of Qn.Ph.-palladium(II)-CTAC complex [Qn.Ph. : palladium(II) : CTAC = 3 : 2 : 2] solution. The method could be used in the concentration range of o - 1.50 μg/10 ml of INH, where the effective molar "desorptivity" at 635 nm was 6.2 × 105 1 mol-1cm-1. This proposed method was successfully applied to the determination of INH in tablets. The formation of Qn.Ph.-palladium(II)-CTAC complex was studied under various conditions.
