Clinical Analysis of Two Cases of Postoperative Inflammatory Reaction Following Cataract Surgery in Patients with a History of Uveitis

Cataract surgery in eyes with a history of uveitis carries a risk of excessive postoperative inflammation and associated visual impairment. We report two cases in which, despite preoperative remission of inflammation, a transient exacerbation of inflammation occurred postoperatively, with visual acuity recovering after therapeutic intervention. In both cases, surgery was performed after confirming the quiescence of uveitis, but an unexpected inflammatory response was observed postoperatively. One case responded to vitrectomy and the other to steroid pulse therapy, both Ultimately achieving good visual acuity. In cataract surgery for eyes with a history of uveitis, it is crucial to always be mindful of the risk of postoperative recurrence, even when inflammation is in remission, and to perform careful perioperative management and follow-up.
