The lactation curve of the guinea pig was investigated by two methods: daily hand milking with the aid of oxytocin and timed nursing done every other day.
By the latter method, the lactation reached maximum on the 3rd to the 11th day and continued for 21 to 35 days. The lactation period was longer and the individual difference in the shape of the curve larger in the multiparous group than in the primiparous one, but as a whole, no remarkable differences were found between both groups.
The lactose percentage showed changes parallel with the lactation curve. The growth of the young was nearly normal.
The lactation curve obtained by this method seems to be a reliable one by excluding some disadvantages which were found in the former methods.
