【purpose】

Maximum insufflation capacity(MIC)measurement is one of the pulmonary rehabilitation for Duchenne muscular dystrophy(DMD). One of the purposes of measuring MIC is that measure the flexibility of the lung, but it has many variations by evaluators. The purpose of this study is to examine the reliability of“Assessment insufflation capacity;AIC(Air volume whitch is measured with bug bubble mask at invariable pressure, for the evaluation of lung-thorax flexibility)”, we originally defined.

【Method】

This study was approved from research ethics committee of our institution. The study included 21 participants(12 to 30 years of age), with DMD without developmental disorder. And they have already measured and exercised MIC. We carried out informed consent and informed assent to patient and family. We measured AIC by certain posture, pressure, flow velocity, frequency. We used certain tools and assist the participants, using a re-test method in two days leave at least 30 days between. Visit1 examined the intra-rater reliability by one examiner, visit2 examined the inter-rater reliability by two examiner.Statistical analysis was conducted by the intraclass correlation coefficients(ICC), using SPSS(ver23).

【Result】

In Visit1, 21 participants were analyzed(ICC 1.1:0.992). In Visit2, 19 participants were analyzed(ICC 2.1:0.987).

【Discussion】

MIC measurement is a method to maintain and improve the flexibility of lung or increase cough flow. However, its value of the measurement would be changed by physical therapist's skill. AIC, which was examined in this study, showed the high correlation coefficient reliability. We think that the main reason of this result is from stabilization pressure that is one of the variables of MIC.In further studies, we expect to measure younger patients' lungs before their lungs become hard with this non-invasive method.
