This paper identifies and evaluates factors that affect CO2 transportation costs by ship in CO2 captureand storage (CCS). First, a tool for qualitatively evaluating transportation costs was prepared, and usingthis tool, transportation costs were calculated for various model cases assuming four emission sites in Japan and four storage sites in Japan and abroad. The study results are presented for the following factors: 1) transport pressure (design pressure), 2) steel grade and plate thickness of cargo tanks, 3) impuritiesin liquefied CO2, and 4) flow velocity in cargo piping. In addition, examples of transportation patterns ofdedicated liquefied CO2 carriers and liquefied CO2/ammonia multi-purpose carriers are presented, and transportation costs are compared. Findings from these studies are summarized.
