A marine biomass utilization system is developed in this study to address nutrient imbalances in semi-enclosed coastal seas such as Osaka Bay. The nutrient imbalance in Osaka bay poses significant environmental challenges, with eutrophication occurring in the northeastern part and nutrient deficiencies occurring in the southwestern part. Using liquid fertilizer derived from nitrified methane fermentation residue, the laboratory of university provided it as part of nitrification experiments. This study examines the potential for enhancing phytoplankton and seaweed growth conducted at Marine Fisheries Research Center and Osaka Metropolitan University. The results of phytoplankton culture experiment showed a favorable effect on the growth of Chaetoceros neogracile. Furthermore, the results of seaweed photosynthesis experiments noticed the relative growth rates of sea lettuce (Ulva sp.) and wakame (Undaria pinnatifida) significantly increased. As the results of the higher growth rate of sea lettuce and wakame, there may be potential applications for other cultivated seaweeds, such as nori (Pyropia sp.).
