This paper provides an overview of the impact of generative AI on ship design and highlights new possibilities for its application. It introduces the advanced initiatives of the Open Collaboration Laboratory for Enabling Advanced Marine Systems (OCEANS) at the Graduate School of Engineering, University of Osaka. The paper presents case studies on efforts to achieve automated design using generative AI. These include the development of a NAPA operational support system, the construction of a shipbuilding knowledge base, and the acceleration of simulation processes. Together, these initiatives demonstrate how generative AI can enhance efficiency, support decision making, and foster innovation in ship design. By integrating AI-driven tools with traditional expertise, OCEANS is contributing to the creation of more advanced, sustainable, and intelligent marine systems. The paper emphasizes the potential of generative AI to transform the future of shipbuilding and maritime engineering.
