From patchouli oil, obtained from patchouli, Pogostemon cablin (Labiatae), has been isolated a new sesquiterpenic alcohol, pogostol, of the formula C15H26O, whose structure has been established as shown in formula I on the basis of chemical and physico-chemical data.
