Benzoyl Group Participation in Epoxide Ring Opening of 26-Benzoxy-24, 25-epoxycholesterol Derivatives ; Reinvestigation of the Stereochemistry

The benzoyl group participation in the epoxide ring opening reaction of 26-benzoxy-24, 25-epoxycholesterol derivatives on treatment with perchloric acid in tetrahydrofuran was clearly demonstrated by the transformation of (carbonyl-¹⁸O)-3β, 26-dibenzoxy-24, 25-epoxycholest-5-ene into (25-¹⁸O)-24, 25, 26-trihydroxycholesterol derivatives.
