Abstract

A new C₂₁ furanoterpene, untenospongin C (1), has been isolated from the Okinawan marine sponge Hippospongia sp. and its structure was determined on the basis of the spectroscopic data and chemical evidence. The absolute configuration of untenospongin B (2) was established by an examination of the NMR data for the 2-methoxy-2-trifluoromethylphenylacetic acid esters of 2.
