Abstract
Seventeen kinds of 3, 3-dimethylated branched fatty acids were prepared by anodic synthesis. Methyl or ethyl hydrogen 3, 3-dimethylglutarate was used as the half-ester of dibasic acid. Cross-coupled products were obtained by crossing half-ester with monobasic acids. Platinum plates were used as the electrodes, and methanol or ethanol as the solvent. The lower members of the series (up to C16H33O2) are liquid, while the higher members (up to C22H46O2) are solid. No alternation was seen in the melting points of these acids.
