Single heart-muscle cells were isolated from chick embryos. The zeta potential of these cells was determined from measurements of the cellelectrophoretic mobility in accordance with the Helmholtz-Smolukowskiequation in a variety of environmental salt compositions. Ca2+, Mg2+ and K+ shifted the zeta potential to a positive direction.
