Lead is a ubiquitous element in soil environments due to natural and anthropogenic pathways; it is highly toxic to plants, wildlife and humans. Phosphate treatment has emerged as a widely accepted approach to immobilize lead in contaminated soils and solid waste. Na-montmorillonite is an interesting inorganic material, because its nanolayered structure and plate like morphology. The present study evaluates the effects of phosphate on montmorillonite lead bioavailability.
