A Model for Warehouse Matching Platform System

Sustainable logistics is essential for a sustainable urban development. Cooperation and coordination among the logistics stakeholders are considered good ways forward in this regard. The warehouse matching platform systems (WMPS) can help in this context. The WMPS provides matching between entities looking for warehouse space (due to capacity issues or due to changing business environment) with the available idle warehouse space. It reduces requirement of new warehouse spaces and burden on the urban land use and the friction between logistics and residential uses. This paper provides a mathematical model of the WMPS and incorporate new aspects in the matching system, which, so far, have not been considered in existing WMPS. Based on the computation results on a test instance it was found that consideration of splitting the quantity of goods to be stored and routing between the final distribution locations can improve the benefits of the WMPS, significantly.
