Urban intersections are critical nodes in transportation networks, where congestion and safety concerns often impede efficient traffic flow. This study employs the VISSIM simulation tool to conduct an in-depth analysis of a major intersection in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Real-world traffic data were gathered and used to develop a detailed simulation model that replicates current operating conditions. Key performance indicators—including vehicle delay, and throughput—were evaluated under varying traffic volumes and signal timing scenarios. The simulation results reveal that targeted modifications in intersection design and signal control can significantly improve operational efficiency and reduce delays. Moreover, sensitivity analyses highlight the potential benefits of alternative traffic management strategies in mitigating congestion during peak hours. Overall, this case study contributes to the growing body of literature on traffic simulation, offering practical recommendations for enhancing intersection performance in rapidly developing cities.
