Mechanical vibration characteristics of freely suspended film of ferroelectric liquid crystai are investigated via measurement of the reflected light. The mechanical vibration induced by irradiation of an ultrasound in air has harmonic components in addition to the fundamental component of the carrier wave frequency of the ultrasound. The mechanical vibration is aiso observed under irradiating ultrasound in the form of amplitude-modulation (AM). The frequency components correspond to the carrier wave frequency and the modulaion frequency. An ultrasound is demodulated by using the freely suspended film.
