A disk-like complex, bis[1,2-bis(3,4-di-n-10-undecenoxyphenyl)ethandionedioximato] nickel(II) (la) (abbreviated as [(C_<11>O)_4DPG]_2Ni), has been synthesized and characterized. The [(C_<11>O)_4DPG]_2Ni complex exhibits a hexagonal ordered columnar (Col_<ho>) mesophase in the wide range from room temperature to 200℃. Interestingly, the [(C_<11>O)_4DPG]_2Ni complex(1a) has an ordered columnar mesophase, whereas the [(C_<12>O)_4DPG]_2Ni complex without vinyl groups(1b) has a disordered columnar mesophase. Both of these complexes exhibit "mesomorphic thermochromism". The [(C_<11>O)_4DPG]_2Ni complex is available for metallomesogenic polymer having discotic unit.
