We prepared poly((4-octyioxy-4'-hexyloxybiphenyl)α-fluoroacrylate) (PF6B8), poly((4-methoxy -4'-hexloxybiphenyl) α -ftuoroacrylate)(PF6B1) and poly((4-cyano-4'-hexyloxybiphenyul) α -fluoro acrylate) (PF6BCN), and studied the influence of α - fluoro group on the mesogenicity with comparing those of poly(acrylate)s and poly(methacwtate)s with the same side chains. PF6B8 as well as poiy((4-octygoxy-4'-hexyloxybiphenl)acrylate) (PA6B8) and poly((4-octybxy-4'-hexyloxy biphenyg) methacrylate) (PM6B8) showed the existence of simeric A phase. The intensities of the X-ray diffraction peaks at small angie region increased in the order of H, CH_3 and F group, which suggested that the ordering of the smectic layer increased with the order.
