A novel photorefractive polymer which contains hydrogen-bonding moiety was synthesised. It has been reported that the photorefractivity of the the isotropic phase of the side-chain liquid crystalline polymers is enhanced by the existence of microdomains. It is expected that the photorefractivity of glassy polymers will be enhanced if the microdomains are incorporated. For this purpose, we synthesized a NLO polymer which contains a small portion of hydrogen-bonding moiety. The enhancement of photorefractivity through the formation of hydrogen-bonding microdomain will be discussed.
