To realize active-matrix flexible liquid crystal displays (LCDs), high heat resistance and high dimensional stability are required for plastic substrates. We have developed the fabrication process of flexible LCDs based on the coat-debond formation method using ultrathin polyimide (PI) substrates. In this paper, we fabricated post spacers on the PI substrates by photolithography and investigated the influence of spacer pitch on the image quality of flexible LCDs. As a result, we clarified that we can suppress the degradation of image quality of flexible LCDs in both non-curved and curved states by using narrow pitch post spacers.
