A direction of LC alignment, a presence of pretilt and an evaluation of azimuthal anchoring force can easily be shown by observing a liquid crystal(LC) droplet on an alignment layer. LC droplets on conventional rubbed PI layers, a 60° obliquely evaporated SiO layer, a rubbed PS layer, and nonrubbed UV cured polymer layers are observed between cross polarizers using a microscope. Disclinations and textures in LC droplets on the layers are observed and are discussed about those alignment properties.
