We evaluted the azimuthal anchoring strength of the Nematic Liquid Crystal(NLC) on orientational films. In this study, Polyamic Acid Salt Langmuir-Blodgett(PA-LB) films was adopted as a non-rubbed alignment films, and compared with the conventional spin-coated and rubbed Polyimide films. By measuring the minimal optical transmission of the twisted nematic(TN) LC cell with and without the quarter wave plate, the actual twist angles in TN cell can be calculated by Jones matrix method, and we can obtain the azimuthal anchoring strength. In consequence, it was found that the order of azimuthal anchoring strength of the PA-LB film was about 10-6 N/m, which was smaller than the rubbed PI films (about 10-5 N/m). It was also suggested that the magnitude of the azimuthal anchoring is two order weaker than that of the polar anchoring.
