The third-order dielectric constant and the electro-optic effect were measured in antiferroelectric liquid crystals. The third-order dielectric relaxation due to the antiferroelectric Goldstone mode was observed, which was Debye-type, as was theoretically expected by Orihara and Ishibashi. The temperature dependence of the relaxation frequency was also obtained. In the electro-optic measurement of TFMHPOBC, it was found that the intensity vanishes at a certain temperature, which depends on the optical purity. This result will be discussed on the basis of a phenomenological theory proposed by Orihara and Ishibashi.
