Abstract
We have reported that particular disclination lines with zig-zag structure can be seen in the liquid crystal cell with a slit-patterned structure. Such the disclination lines related with the distributed electric field appear in the TFT panel which has considerably complicated electrode structure, and also in the liquid crystal microlens which utilizes the distributed electric field in the liquid crystal cell. It is pointed out that they become serious problems for improving the optical properties of the liquid crystal devices. In this paper, we investigated the detail behavior of the disclination lines by using a hole-patterned electrode structure under various experimental conditions, such as an electrode structure, applying voltage, pretilt angle, separation of the arrayed hole pattern and etc.
