A neutron diffraction measurement has been performed for molten TlCl, a monovalent transition metal chloride, at 800 K. The radial distribution function showed very broad peak owing to the large polarizability of the ions. However, the ratio of the r value of the second peak to the first 1.43 seems to show NaCl type local structure of the melt in spite of the CsCl type crystal structure. This finding has been supported by molecular dynamics calculation.
