Hypophysectomized and/or sialoadenectomized immature female rats were administered with STH or parotin in order to detect histologically the skeletalgrowth promoting effect of parotin compared with that of STH.
The results obtained are as follows:
1) Endochondral ossification in the proximal tibial epiphysis was reactivated by the administration of STH in either hypophysectomized or hypophysectomized and sialoadenectomized rats.
2) Under the conditions employed in this experiment, neither administration of parotin nor the removal of the salivary glands caused any pronounced histological changes in the proximal epiphysis of the tibia.
