The effects of peptone, the oxidizing agent hydrogen peroxide and reducing agents (vitamin c, glucose) as well as irradiation of ultraviolet light on the germicidal action of sulfonamides were investigated. The results are as follows. 1) The bacterioidal action of sulfonamide on staphylococcus aureus was moderately increased by hydrogen peroxide, causing no effect on the growth and multiplication of the organismus. 2) Peptone interfered with the germicidal action of the drug. 3) The reducing agents, vitamine c and glucose, diminished the action of the drug similiar to peptone. 4) Ultraviolet light changes the sulfonamide solution to yellow when the pH of the solution is below 8 and brownish red when the pH is above 10. The bactericidal action of the irradiated solution is less than that of nonirradiated one.[Cf. orginal (Japanese) p. 375.]
