Five Characeae species including two 'endangered' were emerged from soil spread to 15cm-thickness in four dragonfly ponds artificially created. The soil (62m^3 in total) was collected in Feb. 2001 from Watarase wetland, where the Charales have not grown for 30 years at least. Therefore, the regeneration from long-persisting oospore banks of Characeae species was suggested. These indicate that soil oospore banks are useful for restoration and conservation of Charales populations strongly threatened.
