It is now necessary to explore new industrial fields, making use of innovative techniques, in accordance with the progress of Japan's recent economic structural reform. When it comes to commercializing the results of research from universities and private companies, the Death Valley, which is the problem of acquiring financial resources for additional R&D aimed at practical use, becomes an obstacle. Therefore, official supports to bridge the Death Valley is required to activate the technology owned by private entities including venture companies. In this study, the results of selection process for research grants offered by Japanese public funding agency, together with results of interviews towards venture capitals, were analyzed to present the effectiveness of P2M in considering direction for official support for R&D executed by venture companies.
