Evaluation of the Effectiveness of Adding Evacuation Shelters for Vulnerable Persons Using Escape Maps to Improve Evacuation Time

Natural disasters in Japan are increasing every year. Since the elderly are often affected, it is important for them to be able to evacuate to shelters in order to mitigate the damage. In this study, we focused on the issue of evacuation for the elderly and proposed the use of welfare facilities as evacuation shelter. The analysis of the effect of using welfare facilities as evacuation shelters showed that the use of welfare facilities as evacuation shelters can improve the evacuation situation of neighborhood residents, including the elderly.
