Abstract

These days, the smartgrid system is suggested as the next power network. The purpose of introducing the smartgrid is to make the power system high performance and environmentally friendly. It is essential to improve the reliability of transmission and distribution lines to achieve that. Then, the photovoltaics systems have been spread, however, it is concerned that the harmonics are generated by the inverter and deteriorate the quality of the power delivery system. The harmonics will be an obstacle to transformers, phase advanced condensers and so on designed in the commercial frequency. Therefore, it is necessary to measure the status of power lines at all times. The authors have designed and developed the small power status sensor for placing in pole switch and measuring power factor and harmonics. The proposed sensor measures voltage and current waveforms and sends the results with single-board computer, which is also put in pole switch, over the Internet. In this study, the authors describe the more downsized sensor's design using finite element method and experiment results with simulated power line.
