This paper presents the results of a new operative procedure which were performed on 20 cases with chronic dacryocystitis to repaire the nasolarimal duct by transplanting the flap of bulbar conjunctiva,
The procedure is as follows. At first, the conjunctiva) flap is rolled up around the Nelaton's catheter and it would be inserted into the nasolacrimal duct, previously dilated with probe and by curetting, through the incised lacrimal sac, and then the wound of skin sewed together so as to fix the Nelaton's catheter, and also the end of the, catheter should be fixed on the brow tightly by plaster.
Under observation of 4 to 30 months after the operation, out of 20 cases, 13 cases (65%) were secured satisfactory result, 5 cases (25%) were improved but not sufficiently, and 2 cases (10%) were unsuccessful.
The findings of the unsuccessful cases were as follows. In one case, the following facts, resulted by serious trachoma, i. e, the wide spread cicatrix in nasolarimal duct and inelastic cicatrized conjunctiva, by which the Nelaton's catheter couldn't be wrapped up fully, were found. In another case, in spite of energetic antiphlogistic treatment, tenacious and continuous oppresive pain didn't subside, at last dacryocystectomy was carried out.
