Significant improvements in inkjet print quality have been attained in no small part due to micro-droplet-based low granularity, advanced image processing algorithms, ink-matched print media, and through a better understanding of the ink droplet spreading mechanisms. As a result, photo-quality inkjet prints fully comparable with silver-halide prints have been achieved. Nevertheless, there remain areas for further improvement, especially in regard to the durability of prints obtained from dye-based inks. Our general approach for obtaining remarkable improvements in print durability has been focused on pigment-based inks. Although falling short of complete satisfaction, through improvements in pigments, dispersants, and ink formulations, an overall high level of market acceptance and consumer satisfaction for pigment-based inks has been achieved. For high quality output focused on plain-paper media, the PX-V ink has been developed. For photo quality output on glossy specialty media, the PX-G and PX-P/K3 inks have been developed. Depending on the user, be it the general consumer, the high-level amateur, or the professional, there is a pigment-based ink that meets their special needs.
