New CdS (Se)/CdTe solid state liquid crystal light valves (LCLVs) coupled with a cathode ray tube (CRT) has been developed and its sample production has been started in our Optical Information Processing Lab. Connected to a computer or a video camera, the CRT coupled LCLV spatial light modulator (CRT-LCLV SLM) can project a full-color image on screen up to 1 to 3 meter (in diagonal dimension). Display size and resolution can be varied electronically over a wide range. We have measured the imaging characteristics of the device and examined its availability as an electro-optical converter for an enlarged electronic image. The general configuration and main specifications, as well as the results of a series of experiments for the device, are given.
