Abstract

The purpose of this research was to clarify teachers' utilization of clips regarding the following two points: 1) How teachers design lesson plans with this and other materials, by analyzing lesson plans, which was made by 11 teachers; and, 2) Observing how teachers show clips in a classroom from observations. The digital video clips and the system used to show them were developed to be used in elementary schools (K-6). It was assumed that teachers would show the clips to their students. The subject is Japanese History. Twenty-five teachers used them in their class from April to December 2001. It was found that teachers combined the clips with print materials and short video programs in various ways. Also, the teachers showed the clips with frequent stops in the middle of the clips, or repeatedly, depending on the purpose. It was concluded that the teachers used the clips with flexibility.
