Companies depend on various kinds of capitals to remain afloat in competition. Today more than ever, attention is being paid to human capital. Firms attempt to realize full potential of their human capital considering employee satisfaction and motivation. Some studies, however, argue that satisfaction does not necessarily enhance firm’s values, supporting instead that firm focuses on employee engagement. This paper explores the relatively contemporary concept in Human Capital Management, usually referred to as employee engagement through studies of related literatures. The purpose of this paper is to discover the drivers behind employee engagement and ultimately the merits that employee engagement offers to firms above and beyond its counterparts.
