Abstract
The purpose of this study is to propose a model for defining IT investment portfolio based on business-IT alignment model. Val IT, the framework for translating IT investment into business value suggested by IT Governance Institute, assumes that defining portfolio is a starting point for the IT investment portfolio management processes. IT investment portfolio model proposed in this study consists of three portfolios: IT strategy, IT infrastructure, and IT engagement portfolios. The best balance among the three portfolios determines a success of the portfolio management. By utilizing this model, a company can define an IT investment portfolio in the light of alignment with business strategy and foundation for execution, coordination among different organizational layers, and IT investment risk.
