DP-based Control Point Selection of Periodic Splines for Compact Contour Modeling

In this study, we consider the problem of modeling contour on objects by employing the periodic curves.The periodic curves are constituted by using normalized uniform B-splines as basis functions, hence the knot points are equally spaced. We then develop a method of constructing the compact spline-based contour models by selecting the dominant control point selection, in which the desired approximation accuracy is achieved. Such a selection problem is formulated by dynamic programming (DP) approach. The compact contour model is represented by using non-uniform B-splines. The performance is demonstrated by numerical studies.
