The objective of the research is to clarify the socio--economic factors affecting forest area changes in Cambodia as part of REDD+ research. Panel data analysis is undertaken to forest area changes from 2002 to 2010 in 18 provinces. Various tests were implemented, and robust estimations were undertaken to solve the problems of heterskydasticity and serial correlation. This research found that population and gross agricultural production gave negative impacts on forest area changes. Large-scale plantation development, a dummy variable in the model, was found having negative impacts on forest area changes. On the other hand, rice cultivation area, gross industrial production, income and floor area of house by household are not significant to affect forest area changes. Another dummy variable, region, is added by dividing 18 provinces into Tonle Sap Lake region and plateau and mountain region. The result shows no significant difference between these two regions in deforestation.
