Main objective of this study was to clarify species differences in the relationship between canopy duration and radial stem growth of canopy trees in Pacific Ocean-type beech forest in Shizuoka Prefecture. The targets are 18 species of deciduous broad-leaved tree with five individuals at least. Canopy duration was defined as number of days when the leaves exist and calculated based on green pixel index in orthophoto data taken by drone during 2018’s growing season. Radial stem growth of all individuals was determined by actual width of the latest annual ring from wood cores taken at 1 m height at the end of growing season. Intra-species variations in radial stem growth were much larger than inter-species variations in general with the largest mean growth found in Fagus crenata. Species differences in role of leaf phenology on stem growth will be discussed.
